Each day I seek to learn and grow. As Albert Einstein suggests: “Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.” In doing so, it seems my quest to learn about the best cleaning strategies never ends, especially as they relate to green cleaning products and eco friendly natural home cleaners and solutions.
As a result, CleansGreen® seeks to learn about myths that are prevalent and understand what is true and what is false … even seeking the science behind green cleaning. For example examining Coca Cola to determine if it is a good cleaner.
Handwashing or the Dishwasher – Which is Better?
One belief is that “Handwashing your dishes is better than using the dishwasher.”
Unless your dishwasher is more than a decade old, this is no longer true.
Current dishwasher models beat hand washing by a mile. Although it may be more fulfilling and satisfying to scrub the dishes manually, a dishwasher will do a much better job of removing the bacteria from dishes and cutlery.
This is true because dishwashers heat the water to 140°F, a temperature that is too hot for our hands. But this is a temperature that will sanitize the dishes. It has been found that 400 times more bacteria has been left on the dishes after hand washing when compared to those that went through the dishwasher cycle! YIKES
If that is not enough to convince you, handwashing dishes with hot water causes more harm to the environment than using a dishwasher. According to the EPA’s Energy Star website, using a dishwasher that bears the Energy Star label can save some 5,000 gallons of water, more than $40 dollars in energy costs AND 230 hours in personal time when hand washing over the course of a year.
The CleansGreen® Kitchen Cleaning Kit contains an environmentally friendly cleaner concentrate along with a yellow color matched and coded thick terry type microfiber cloth.
The highly concentrated natural green home all-purpose cleaner is effective for all routine cleaning jobs found in the kitchen. Its low foam and nearly neutral pH matched with a high quality split microfiber cloth means no streaking and no soapy residue.
Specifically formulated for you, this cleaning solution will lift soil from any washable surface quickly and easily and dries film free. It works equally well in hard or soft water. Use for damp mopping, scrubbing, spray and wipe cleaning, or with a hand bucket and cloth since it is designed to revitalize any washable surface without damage.
The Bottom Line per Green Cleaning Products
In this case, it pays to be lazy. After all 230 hours is MORE THAN five and half weeks of your 40 hour a week job … and this is time you do not even get financially compensated. In short, use the dishwasher.
