Reasons to begin spring cleaning in April: the Royal Wedding, Earth Day, Easter, and the weather, that is, “April Showers bring May Flowers”. To start follow the recommended shortcuts of Green Cleaning Products.
Spring Cleaning Shortcuts from Green Cleaning Products
For the greatest success in spring cleaning, target your efforts on the key areas of home and your workplace. In addition to the preventative measures taken throughout the year to minimize the amount of effort required for spring cleaning, implement the Pareto Principle, more commonly known as the 80-20 Rule (find out more about how to minimize the efforts of spring cleaning with our Green Cleaning Products Checklist). Knowing that 80 percent of your spring cleaning results will be realized from only 20 percent of your effort, carefully select how you spend your cleaning energy.
Windows: Focus on the exterior, where the most dirt builds up, and do not sweat the detail work. For best results at home or work, use green cleaning products and janitorial supplies designed for windows and choose a wind-free, overcast day. (Gusts will cause you to get sprayed; sunlight can dry the window too quickly and/or leave streaks.) A whisk broom can help you clean the screens quickly and effortlessly.
Mattresses: Refresh a mattress with baking soda while its cover gets a thorough washing, followed by a tennis-ball tumble or a dose of fresh air. Dusting the mattress evenly with household baking soda, will gradually draw dirt and moisture out of the mattress and eliminate odors. (You’ll leave this light dusting on the mattress when you remake the bed and vacuum it up the next time you change the sheets.)
Curtains: Use green cleaning products, green janitorial supplies, or steam on most fabrics, from velvet to silk, to revive them and knock out odors at the office or at home. Opening the windows will speed the drying process.
Upholstery: Hit every inch of the frame and the cushions with a hand vacuum at work and at home. Use your green cleaning products and janitorial supplies to swipe the upholstery to finish. In addition a lint roller, peeling away to a new sticky layer as needed, becomes a very handy tool!
Linens and Clothes: Hang laundry on an outdoor clothesline and let the sunshine dry it. The sun is a natural bleach and disinfectant. Ultraviolet (UV) rays bleach out stains and bacteria, creating that fresh air smell. (To prevent fading, turn garments inside out.)
Carpeting and Rugs: Focus most on the needy areas, including the high-traffic zones and those stains that have been bugging you forever with your green cleaning products designed for spot cleaning carpets. In the workplace this will likely be near entryways and where people eat. At home the play spaces are also included. Give the rest a quick (but still substantial) once-over with green carpet cleaner. When vacuuming area rugs remember to lift and fold back the corners to reach the underside.
Plants: Remove indoor air pollutants without expensive electric filters, whether for the royal wedding or not. Houseplants such as chrysanthemums, English ivy, spider plants, and Boston ferns naturally freshen the air and have been found to remove toxins from our environment – at the office and at home.
The Royal Wedding is just around the corner. Implementing these shortcuts in spring cleaning will become handy. Couple these green cleaning shortcuts with our green cleaning products for your house and green janitorial supplies for your business for a safe and green clean!
